I think it used to be the same as the number of fields in a table...250 I think.

There also used to be a limit to the number of characters you can use to build the statement...but I'm not sure of what it was....512 or 1023 seems to stick in my mind...an experiment would answer that one....

I'm not sure if those limits are still true...
