Jerry,

Well, no, as far as I know 'dcc' is something that Borland built. I didn't know gcc could compile Object Pascal code, and even if it could, it probably doesn't keep up with the proprietary changes Borland makes with each release. IN other words, I am pretty sure their compiler will remain proprietary, at least for the moment, and only dcc will be able to handle compiling the Kylix Object Pascal code.

When the presenter mentioned "other major SQL DBs" he alluded to the fact that Borland definitely knows what databases those are, so I would assume that the list will include Oracle, Informix, Sybase, and PostgreSQL. But we won't know for sure until more specs are released (the presenter honestly didn't know what all would be out by release time.)

Another thing I forgot to ask was if the other tools from the Delphi set would be available, namely SQL Explorer. I love SQL Explorer as a one-stop data viewing tool, though without the BDE, I am not sure what database tools will be bundled with Kylix.

It sounds like Borland definitely thinks so...

I will be keeping my eyes peeled for future press releases from Inprise as to how all the Kylix details will flesh out.
