Stephen;
If you have any questions about ASP, ADO and web applications, let me know. I am developing a large Quality Control web application for NUMMI (Toyota and General Motors) in Fremont, California. Yes we make cars and trucks. Our corporate standard is Visual Interdev. I use VI as an editor only. The application will have at least 50 forms.
Error trapping, data validation and security are the biggest problems I am working on and believe me what you can do is limited. It would have taken me about 6 weeks to complete this project using VFP and Visual MaxFrame Professionaland and have a professional application for use. I have been on this project for almost 6 months and it is far from complete.
I have created INCLUDE files for menus, navigation controls, etc. With 50 + forms you want to have as much reuseable code as possible.
For the most part I am using VB Script with some Java Script. Again web development issues are many and the technology is far from ready for prime time. You can expect a big increase in required development time with an Apple II e result when you expect to be able to use all the technology you are accoustom to. I am not trying to sound negative or bitter but I do like to be realistic.
Another suggestion to decrease development time, increase features and have a professional application would be to use West Wind Connection. I have taken Rick's class in San Francisco, and used it to create several web applications. It is a great tool but our corporation will not let me use it.
The only difference in what we are doing is the data source. I am using SQL Server 7.0. As I mentioned, an application I created earlier this year used VFp's DBC and tables and it works well.
