Thanks to all for all of your suggestions. I have just ordered SuSE 7.0 Personal Edition and I'm sure I will be back with more questions!

>>I have an old 486-66Mhz machine with 32MB of RAM. I would like to use this machine as a file server on my small home network. The other machines are running Win 2K (1) or Win 98 (2).

>As everyone has said, YES! For a server a 486-66Mhz with 32MB RAM would be a nice server. Your bottle neck will be either the speed of your NICS or your HD.

If I remember correctly, there is a section in the setup specifically to setup servers, with all the right questions, etc... ending with nice security and firewall. After I setup my SuSE box I logged onto a website that checks your internet connection for security. It scanned my address for about 15 minutes and finally said it couldn't even tell if a computer was at my address. I'f left my box connected to the Internet 24/7 for over a year and haven't had a single break-in. Still, I'm not going to give you my address!! 8-)
Thanks,
