An old saying: "He who plays with root will damage the tree!"
Never do daily operations in root. Always create a user account and run Linux from it.
Running from root, besides being dangerous and open to accidental horrors (rm * -R at / blows your install away) will be like hanging your rear out a window and dropping your pants - if you are connected to a network - you're asking to get screwed.
