upper/lower case is a flag I used in UNIX for years to tell if I had processed a file! first pass lower case, second pass UPPER CASE, third pass delete !
Really missed it when we went to the windows environment !
HOWEVER, i don't trust the windows environment to respect the case of file names. It seems to me that some commands don't seem to retain the case of files as they process them ? ( ie , lower case source & upper case target when making a copy !)
Given that fear, I no longer trust the case of the file name .
