VERY true.

I met someone at a party recently, guy who works as a project manager for some dot-com (probably *used* to work for one, at this point). When I told him I was a programmer he asked "Oh, client-side web stuff or server-side web stuff?" I told him I have done a bit of both, but actually, these days I am working on several LAN-based in-house systems.

His response was "people still use those?"

How about MOST businesses? I tried explaining to him that he could walk into any large company and find many many systems still working under that model, some of which might never need to be ported to a browser paradigm.

His blank stare actually made me laugh aloud.

At the end of the night, he gave me his card. His title was "Project Advisor/Technology Trends." I left the card on the coffee table next to a bowl of stale fritos.
