Bill,
>THANKS! This is exactly the kind of info I am looking for. (I also use views for updates, but SPT for lookups) I keep hearing that I should use SPs for updates but as yet am not comfortable with creating SPs that have 100+ parameters. <g> I'm probably missing something there.<
Kevin: I guess you've seen all the negativity towards remote views. My experience has not been that bad with them -- I have learned to coexist with the limitations of the View Designer. I do however give every user their own copy of a views DBC, which probably bypasses most of the real problems reported. With web development on the horizon, though, I may need to look more closely at SPT.
>Does this mean you can only have one 'memo/text' field per record? That could mean some design changes, but no show stoppers there, as we generally limit our tables to one 'Notes' field anyway.<
Kevin: No, I have tables with lots of memo fields. It just means all these fields are mapped to individual VARCHAR2() fields in Oracle. Oracle only allows one LONG datatype per table.
>This sounds like a Wiki topic in the making...<
Kevin: Could be and Mark M. seems to be the undisputed master of VFP/Oracle from what I have seen.
