Just a thought. If you and your development skills are respected [something you earn], can you not overcome most, if not all, biases a customer has for or against certain products? I think it is more important to have yourself and your skills respected than any potential tool you may use.

It really depends on who the client is... in a large company, you might really be developing for (at least) three clients-within-the-client: end users, other programmers, IS Director. If you are working there full-time, sure, you have time to gain that respect. But if you are developing a product, and are up against other bidders developing products in "more-respected" technologies, it may be a harder sell... fair, or not.
