Hi Bill....

>Reaching out to the new developers/corporate community.

>Not to toot our horn, but that's the intention of the VFP Boot Camp -- to >reach out to the beginning to intermediate developer.

Yes.. and may your tribe increase.... BUT.... this is the major point I was trying to make to Evan. If you want to learn VB, ASP, XML (I name these because I'm in the process of learning these) there is enough free tutorials, code samples, etc out there to keep you busy for a while. Certainly enough to get your foot solidly in the door. Not all the way mind you.... but a really good start.

Sadly, the same just can not be said of VFP.

>Sources like the UT and Compuserve, the Wiki board, etc. are a great first >step, but these people have to find these sources, not the other way around.

Well there is no doubt that the UT is one major league great place to learn VFP and I am grateful that a fellow over at Tek-Tips pointed me to it and I've also gotten a lot of great stuff at the wiki. Having programmed for 5 years (from 88-93) I already had some background... I just needed (and need!) to get caught up. Others that are just starting have a different need.

It seems to me that we are lacking in the tutorial area. You can and will learn a lot here and at the wiki but some good solid tutorials at several locations would be a major benefit to the development of entry and intermediate level programmers.

I do not believe for a minute that VB, XML, and ASP people are more generous than the VFP community but they have gotten out and produced more free developmental material on the web than (it seems that way anyway) we have.

Very interesting thought! I guess that success can breed success but it can also bring conceit and lethargy

Anyway.... none of this is directed at you..... just responding with my $.02
Probably not even worth that! < s >
