How can I control the size of the list portion of a combo box?

When I change the rowsource type of a combobox? The first time the list portion of the combobox is activated, only a single blank line with an 'up arrow' graphic is visible. Subsequent presses of the downarrow show about 10 lines of the combobox. How can these 'features' be controlled?
