John,

Personally, I've set a constraint while job hunting over the last 3 years, that even if VFP got me in the door, I had to have the opportunity to learn something else.

It's paid off in spades for me. I now work at Edmunds.com, an Oracle and Java shop. It's a dotcom that is profitable, has some very, very good people working there and was willing to hire me based on my SQL experience and a couple months with Oracle. There will be no looking back for me.

>What if you are somebody who is faced with very few options? What are those contacts in the VFP community going to do for you? Not much. I know this is not a popular view point - but it does reflect reality.

>The fact of the matter - nobody here can control the destiny of VFP. It is too far gone. MS has a plan. The plan however, may or many not be in your best interest. If you plan is to stay in VFP for the next 5 years, the MS's plan is not in your best interest. If on the other hand, you plan on transitioning, MS's plan is good. Keep in mind here that I have not stated whether I agree or disagree with the "plan". That is irrelevant.

>The harsh reality is despite the best wishes, hopes, and prayers that people have, VFP's lot in life has been determined. Stick a fork in it - it is not only done, it is well done. Use it up for all that it is worth today. Get the most you can get out of it - while you can. Don't be dillustional that today's billings translate into future success of the product.
