I have been dowloading alot of queries using Oracle servers and displaying the results and the only good way to show dates is using YYYY-MM-DD in character format - this way, when I index it, it always works and looks good. Sometimes I have YYYY-MM for monthly sumaries as well so it is obvious what is going on to users in either case. This also avoids Y2K problems with sorting nicely...
