I appreciate brevity as much as the next guy. Yet, I must beg for some light to be shed on your succint STRTRAN() reply. Where would you apply it ? You DO want to allow single-quotes, STRTRAN() in VALID seems to be the way to forcibly remove them.

We need control on the OUTER QUOTES. The ones VFP uses to wrap the UPDATE statement it sends to SQL. How do you propose to modify those with STRTRAN()?

One use of STRTRAN() would be to replace a single-quote with TWO single-quotes. SQL will accept this. On retrieval, however, you will see the 2 quotes. Would you STRTRAN() them on the fly back to ONE single quote ? Where would that happen ?
