From the original submission of my message "Ok, this isn't quite Foxpro, but I had no choice", I got a reply suggesting EVAL. Tried this, and am now getting "No exported method.". I'm including the clipper.lib, just in case you're thinking that. Here's what I'm trying to do.

* chr(96) doesn't work to well off the keyboard, so I need to expand it
lccmnd='APPEND FROM "incoming.txt" DELIMITED WITH CHARACTER '+CHR(96)

* then macro expand the variable to append from the file
* EVAL(lccmnd) ?
* &(lccmnd) ?
* &lccmnd ?

none of these work ...
