If I cut and paste an encrypted string into the login dialog, the encrypting algorithm will think that the user entered a normal passowrd (i.e. unecrypted), as it should, then the newly encrypted password will not match. In order to login you must enter the correct unencrypted password. But you cannot cut and paste it unless you have it to begin with. I don't know if i'm making myself clear.
As I said before, any software encryption you use will be more-or-less secure against casual attackers. That should be sufficient for DBF data. If he needs more, then he shouldn't use a DBF.
