Kevin, when I said IE 4.01, I meant IE4.01, not IE5, not IE 5.5; the IE 4 and 4.01 only provided the optional upgrade of the shell Components to include Active Desktop. Having done what you've done, the only way to fix the problem now short of installing a fresh OS is to uninstall IE 5.5, install IE 4.01 with Active Desktop, and then reinstall IE 5.5
You should believe people when they say you have to install a specific version of software to do what you want. THis is MS's stated position in the MSKB, and while I've had limited success with workarounds, I'm not willing to share them because I'm not willing to accept the blame if something goes wrong and extremely detailed instructions are not followed very precisely, which I can safely assume would not be the case in the majority of situations where people have been told how to do this and decided that their own way was better.
