Hang on! It's not that good!
First, forget about TV over ADSl. Tier 1 is not wide enough.
But, if the length of the copper wire from you house to the
nearest phone substation is less than 5K meters then you
can have ADSL. The closer the faster.
At Tier 1 (384Kb) the average connect speed is about 80% of
maximum. I can reach 38-40KB during an ftp download, which
is about 2MB per minute, or 100-120MB per hour. That's about
10 times faster than a 56Kb modem.
What is also nice is that I can use the phone that is connected
to the same outlet that my Cisco router is attached to. Actually,
the phone connects to the back of the router, as does the PC.
Other phones in the house need a small filter device connected
between them and the wall socket.
