>While I feel for the voters in Florida, there is no fair way to allow them to revote because you can not verify anything. That would be a bigger fraud than accepting the vote as it is now. For the 19,000+ ballots that were disqualified because they were double-punched, that is just tough. Everyone should know you can not vote for 2 people. Polling places do allow you to get a new ballot if you screw up as long as you do it BEFORE you leave the polling place.

The only ones I feel for in Florida are the ones who didn't realize their error until after they left. And even then, I don't feel too badly. I think this is one of the major problems with this country... no one takes reponsibility. Instead of recognizing they made a mistake and moving on with their lives, they can't point fingers fast enough, and some are threatening lawsuits. What happened to just dusting yourself off and continuing on your way when you trip on the sidewalk? Why do we feel compelled to look for the nearest pocketbook to sue?

As for the others, those who felt too embarrassed to ask for help or another ballot, they *chose* to vote incorrectly. They made a conscious decision that their sense of pride was more important than their vote, and it should stay that way, at least IMO.

>As I recall we abolished all sorts of barriers to voting including poll taxes, literacy tests, property ownership, race, etc., so anyone can vote regardless if IQ, social status or ethnic background. AFAIC, I have no sympathy for anyone who did not ask for help. The only dumb question is the one you do not ask.

As much as the average person's ignorance can be seen everyday, I believe that everyone should have a say, regardless of their ignorance. That way, they get what they (had the opportunity to) vote for. People should be free to control their own decisions and ultimately, their lives.

>It is also funny to me how none of these Palm Beach complaints surfaced until AFTER the TV stations pulled the State out of Gore's column and eventually called the State for Bush. It's LBJ all over again. And another thing, 73 lawyers from the Democrats?!?! Geeze, even OJ only needed 3 on his Dream Team. :)

If the ballot doesn't fit, you must... nevermind :)
