Hi Alan,
In-Process and Out-Of-Process are relative to the client application which instantiates the COM server. In case of the remote server PC the client app and COM server are located on different computers, therefore the COM server physically cannot run in the same process with a client app, so it has to be an EXE. It has nothing to do with the VFP runtime files (except the fact they have to be installed on the server PC in order to run your COM server :)
