Steve,

>What a mess.

You can say that again. Though I'm a foreigner, I'm looking at the election with great interest. I've abandoned my usual soap series and whatch the latest news about the election, much more fun :-). The situation in Florida is hopeless. where to go from here ?? Al gore won't accept the results until federal investigations concerning Fraud and invalid ballots are finished. George Bush won't accept the results when he loses. It seems that this a draw !! If I were the US goverment I would do it all over again (see which candidate has the largest budget ;-)

From the local news I understand that Bush accused Gore about being a bad loser. Well I want to see him if he was in the same position. I think Bush would be even a worse loser. Give me a break.

Besides this, many of us europeans don't understand why Bush is that popular:
- He did nothing of any importance before he was 40.
- He had (has maybe ?) a drinking problem.
- He was being rude at a journalist in public
- He can't seem to get the words out right
- He does not have the intellect, intelligence and experience Al Gore has.
- He is a forestander of the death penalty though it is proven that are numerous cases where the prove of guilt is at least doubtfull and the judgement seems to be based on race or other ethnical status.

From our standpoint, this only can happen in the US......
