What's wrong with voting machines? In my county, we've been using electronic voting machines for about 5 years now. While they don't have the nice feel of the mechanical ones, they work and they don't let you vote for more than the right number of candidates (I started to say "one candidate per office," but there are times when you're supposed to vote for more than one.) In addition, they're laid out in rows and columns, so you don't have this butterfly nonsense.
