A problem with the direction that you and GT are going is that you're overlooking the responsibility of the voter to make an informed decision.
If voters are susceptible to polls and media spin and the like then they are not performing their civic duty. I am strongly against laws or even casual agreements where one group is prohibited from it's Constitutionally protected rights (the media and the First Amendment) because others are not being diligent in executing their Constitutional responsibilities (voters and voting).
