Im modifing some software to calculate insurance enrolments. The detail level is created with some simple SQL statements and creates the pool of employees.

Right now the pool is indexed unique on location, written out to a temp file, the temp file is then used to sum totals for each location. Works but strikes me as cumbersome.

I'm trying to install some SQL disipline in this place. Is there a SQL statement to return me counts, sums etc by a unique value, say location code for a result set of a query?
