In a newsgroup someone passed on a quote by some "expert" and well known VB person that in 5 years all VBers had better know C# if you wanted to land a job.

These kind of statements always make me wonder.

I'm spending a lot of time, money , and effort in learning VB so I am curious as to what some of you UT VB guys and gals might think.

Hey Tom --- based on what I have read, I find this extremely unlikely. First of all, I have been hearing for years that I had better learn C++ if I want a good job -- unfortunately, I haven't had the time to do so since I have had too much work thrown my way in VB (and VFP)!!!

Second of all, C# is not yet a proven tool. Yes, I know that it sounds great, and that the MS marketing department will be 100% behind it.... but does this mean that it will go the route of NT Server, or InterDev? (For the record, I think it will be a success, but I hope you see my point).

Third of all, there is SOOOOOOO much VB work out there, can you really see it all dying up in a few short years?

Personally, I am waiting it out. I think learning VB now is a Good Thing and I continue to recommend it. Any skills you learn from it will definitely help down the line in other languages, as well.
