>As far as your remark about "white, male, prosperous slaveowners" goes... I cannot even imagine how indignant some people would rightly get if you said, "black, female poor free people" as though that were a justification for some argument you were making.

This is not racism, merely a statement of the factual situation in the 18th C compared to the value system of today, and why we should take the constitutional framework with some grains of salt.

>Since when does one's race or level of prosperity or social status have any bearing on whether something is right or wrong?

It doesn't and shouldn't - in a fixed context. But society & cultures evolve & change over time, and the social mores (i.e., what is generally regarded as "right/wrong") change also, that was also my point. Clearly, some of the beliefs held in the 18th C are considered "wrong" now. Thus, the constitutional framework is inherently imperfect - the best ever devised by humans, but a framework still in need of perpetual updating and interpretation. Not just from social & cultural changes, but also now, because of the information age.

We are now bumping up against some conflict between 18th C communication technology and 21st C technology, something our forefathers could not have envisioned. Gradually, the people demand a more direct voice in the government, and eventually it will happen, whether direct popular vote, or a modified elctoral system. 2/3 of those polled for many years now want a popular presidential vote, for example, as well as more unified polling methodology. We (or our successors) will see national referendums eventually, I have no doubt.

>I will presume that you do not have a racist bone in your body but your remarks are clearly higly racist. Imagine, if someone is white or wealthy they are automatically morally presumed to be "bad". Stupid, illogical political correctness raises its ugly head once again.

Again, context, my friend. I am white, male, & relatively prosperous too, after all, and I'm not bashing myself here. If you wish to term our nation's founders in a different way as far as their cultural, financial & social values with respect to our current value system, feel free, perhaps I'm a little harsh in order to make a point.

>What about all those rich dead white guys who set slaves free? Remember, it was the southers Liberal Democrats who fought against the Civil Rights movement in the 60's including Al Gore's father. And the southern Liberal Democrats who enacted all the bad voting laws.

You are taking me out of my intended context (18th C), methinks. I doubt that we disagree all that much on current philosophies, I am decidely not a liberal.
The Anonymous Bureaucrat,
and frankly, quite content not to be
