I'd like to concur as I was thinking along those lines yesterday. MS's OSs are not fool-proof, and more often than not, it doesn't take too much to mess them up. (My favorite is the new 95 GPF which is now called an 'illegal function'. What do I do when MS Word GPFs and the error message says 'please contact the software manufacturer.' It's YOUR software damit! lol )
Anyway, I've definately seen different performance of VFP on different machines that are similarly equipped. I've seen some of Rich's problems, but not all. I've not always been able to isolate a cause.
Richard, perfect or not, VFP is what we've got, and I think even you have to admit its strengths far outweight its weaknesses. Remember how spoiled we've become. VFP is head and shoulders above FPW/D in terms of application development. Yes, we've sacrificed some speed (particularly from FPD), and maybe even a little stability, but in the long run, we are definately better off.
We could spend hours debating this, but the flames at MS, although well-deserved, are a waste of energy. Gates has his way, and we live by Gates way b/c Lotus, Broderbund and others are too ethical and IBM is too stupid. C'est la vie.
Long live VFP!! Death to Access!! lol
