As an alternative why not phone voting?

After entering your PIN, which identifies the callers district, etc.:

You'd hear:
"Presidential race; for "Bush" press 1, for "Gore" press 2,..."

After selecting, you'd hear:
"You've selected xxxx, to accept and proceed to xxxx race, press #..."

This would proceeed through the entire ballot.

The advantages:
. Everyone has access to a phone.
. Multiple selections would be eliminated.
. Voting could take place from anywhere in the world. (toll free numbers)
. No special hardware (i.e. voting machines) would be required.
. If someone voted with your PIN, you'd be aware immediately when you tried to vote and could take corrective action.
. Hacking would be difficult to impossible if access were limited to phones.
. Centralized system, no more individual districts customizing the ballots.
. Software will be required (of course written in VFP) <g>

Disadvantages:
. Write Ins would be more difficult.
. Preventing someone voting for another person (w/ their permission).
. Might need special phone locations (on trailers?) for individual's w/o phone access. (those phones would only dial the special phone voting number)
. Voting machine manufacturers wouldn't like it.

What do you all think? (maybe I've been reading this thread too long <s>)
