David,

>>>Hi Doug,
>>>
>>>What are you doing up so late?
>>>I guess you really want a Bush win, eh? It shows :-)
>>>
>>>Of course I don't really care. We have two parties here which are like your two but they're only distinguishable *during* the campaign. Afterwards they're all the same.

>>
>>Well, actually trying to finish up a side job. Should get done tomorrow night.
>>
>>Our parties are pretty much the same as well in many cases. I'd like to force a quicker turnover but don't think that will work. <g>

>One thing you do have which we don't is a limited stay in the presidency. Our fearless leaders can stay in as long as they can continue to get votes (or the party kicks them out) We don't vote for our Prime Minister! We don't vote for the Head of State (the more or less powerless Governor-General).
>
>So what happens is that *every* damn (that's not swearing here in Oz) election is a pork-barrel event. At least with your Presidents second term there is a change they might do "the right thing".
>
>The other non-democratic aspect of our system is that campaign funds come from tax revenue, so many dollars per vote! But the catch is you don't get the money unless you win a significant percentage of the vote. Such a nice devious way of keeping new parties out of the running.
>
>Anyway, enough, last I heard the counting will stop in twenty minutes. That get's Bush in I presume?

We'll see. I doubt that this will stop Mr. Gore and his cronies from yelling and hollering about how 'unfair' everything has been - 'unfair' being that they didn't get what they wanted. <g> IOW, the philosohpical elevation of selfihness into a virtue. <g>
Best,

DD
