Did you ever read the science fiction story (Asimov, I think) about the logical endpoint of computer projections? In this future the big computer selected a single citizen who would balance all the view points of all the other citizens to cast the deciding votes. As soon as the selection is announced, his house is sealed off so that no one can attempt to further influence his vote. I forget how it ends...
