>The arguements about electoral versus popular vote have been around since I first voted in a presidential election about 30 years ago. The people advocating a change were fully knowlegeable of the constitutional and legal roots for the electoral system. They just don't think the issues which cause the Electoral College to come into existence are relevant anymore and the "Big State - Small State" conflict is properly resolved by the way the two Houses of Congress are set up. You may disagree with that conclusion - but it is unfair to assume "anyone" who supports a popularly elected president doesn't understand the issues.

Obviously there may be exceptions to my comments. I respect your disagreement but still stand firmly behind what I said. The way that the House and Senate are structured DOES take care of the Big State, Small State issue, but only for elected officials in Congress, not the office of President.
