I honestly think that if the people actualy UNDERSTOOD our system their faith wouldn't be eroded. But it seems as if our polictal structure is no longer taught in schools. Or if it is, the constant media blattering overrides the learning. I was appalled at the way the media seemed to be stunned by the results on election night. There also seems to be way too much weight placed ont he nationwide popular vote, when in fact, by the design of the Founding Fathers, it doesn't matter one single bit. They were very adament about state's rights, thus what really matters is the results in each individual state. That's also why it would be very wrong for any Federal judicial involvement in the Florida balloting. The 11th Circuit was totally correct to refuse to get involved.
I can only blame the media for making a big deal out of the national popular vote totals. But if you weigh that so heavily, where does that leave 1992? Something like 58% of the people did NOT want Clinton.
I realize you are only advocating a revision of the Electoral COllege, not abolishing it, thankfully. Sure, there's been a few bumps in the road, but show me ANY system that's perfect. We may be young as a country, but we've been under the same political system a lot longer than some of these other 'older' countries.
