The short answer is that there were a number of changes between vfp3 & vfp5 concerning such form properties & behavior, if the exact same code works differently in 3 and 6. It's not a vfp6-only change, most of the big form changes were done in vfp5.
That said, I don't recall the one you're referring to now, haven't used vfp3 for several years - perhaps someone else can help with details.
