Has someone suggested using an avi file with the animation control on a form?

Simply put up the form... auto play the avi (like the files going from folder to folder) do the bulk processing.. close the form. Not exactly a progress bar but it will come pretty close to doing what you want. If you like I could even do an avi file the mimicks the progress bar. (at least the visual part of it... if you don't mind it repeating!:)) Again, not the most elegant but it's better than nothing.
