I'll let Ed speak for himself, but I don't think his comment was directed at me. Notice that he did say he was amplifying the statement that he quoted.

Mike agrees with it. :-) Message queues and message loops are foundational to Windows applications, it's best one have an idea how they work before blindly throwing stuff at an application using SendMessage().
