For this I actually used a small window with a textbox, and also had a different textbox which was outside of the window (with coordinates larger than the window) and from the when clause of the visible one I shifted focus to the other one (probably using _objnum, I forgot some of the tricks). Or was it as many one-character boxes as it took... hmmm. Nevertheless, the trick was to have the actual input go somewhere invisible, and to just show the asterisks in the visible one.
