All languages need to use ADO to manipulate OLE DB datasources in ADO recordsets; VFP 7 still has it's own native data engine, but it still needs an OLEDB or ODBC driver to access non-native data, or to interact with ADO recordset objects. There are internal capabilities to make interacting with ADO datasets easier, but the internal data engine for VFP is not a replacement for ADO if you need to pass data from a native VFP table or cursor across a COM interface, or access data from other database products like SQL Server.
