I see what you're trying to accomplish, a couple of ideas
1) Project Manager Hooks - ie
QueryModifyFile event and/or the
Modify method
2) A simple 'wrapper' which fires off the
modi [filetype] [filename] so you can store the
[filename] which is accessed when saving...
