No, I don't think so. I don't have Access 2000, so I cannot confirm this. I have heard that when you try to open an Access97 mdb file in Access2000, it wants to convert it, or only allows read only rights to the user.

I believe what Eric was saying to you (and correctly so) is that you can use the 4.0 OLEDB driver to read the Access97 database. You still have the issue of different database engines, however. If you want to run the app on a machine that does not have Access97, maybe you can try including the Access97 runtimes in the installation program for the application.

Other than this, I have no idea. Have you checked the MS Knowledgebase?
