Thanks for reply - I'm more "curious about theory" here - I have no problem dealing with it practically.

So why can't it just update the row that is already there? Especially for minor changes.

Well - obviously - but there has to be some particular set of circumstances that makes it start bloating.

all my routines for packing are automated - so, again, no biggie from a practical standpoint - just curious about what's going on.
