I would agree with your assessment, under most circumstances. In fact, I'm using listview control to display listing of data but have other forms that tie in to edit the data.
However, grid data entry have it's place and I have a need that isn't really suitable with usual controls. Besides, I don't think Excel is going away anytime soon and there is a good reason why it won't.
