I don't remember seeing a SQL passthrough topic in your manual, (just checking-you know it better than me)

If I use SQL passthrough, will it update the data?

I'm leaning towards remote views, but don't want to make a mistake for later. If there was an equal alternative I'd probably go with that, because the source control for a DBC has been giving us headaches against multi-user environment. Moving to SQL looked like we would be able to develop separately without a problem, but without SQL views supporting parameters, we're back to VFP's remote views accessing the SQL tables themselves.
