I often use PC programs to convert mainframe flat files to more pc type databases. The process is harried at best but possible. The biggest problem is that when I have packed fields that are in EBCDIC the conversion to ascii destroys them during the FTP. Has anyone seen a decent EBCDIC converter that might do this? or a conversion routine that I might be able to modify to do the ascii conversion properly by expanding the packed field first?
