FWIW, NAV causes the problem when installed on a _client_ machine. (I don't have NAV installed on the host Win2K machine, so I don't know the implications of that.) The problem goes away if, on the client machine, you disable NAV's AutoProtect feature--or reconfigure the AutoProtect feature as described in Della Martin's messages to me on this forum.
I know you've decided to have your Win98 machine as the host to avoid the problem, but in case you ever want to host with a Win2K machine, the above describes the solution I am using that seem to work.
