I guess you could say I have a permit. I'm a lieutenant with the Sheriff's Office here and have been a deputy sheriff for 26 years. As for crime in Memphis, if I weren't a cop, I'd get a permit. Even so, as they say, "I'd rather be caught with a pistol than without one." In our area the frequency of crime is directly related to proximity to housing projects and low income areas.
Downtown has some nice attractions, but you run the risk of getting mugged after dark.
