If your asking if you should get the CD-RW as a second CD drive I agree, the CD-ROM is much less inexpensive to replace than the CD-RW. I use the CD-ROM for all R/O activities from loading software, using the MSDN library, to listening to music. If it dies on me, I can get a new one for under $20. My Plextor SCSI CD-RW is a different matter, it is still expensive to replace, so I use it as a dedicated writer.
