Thanks again Ed, tried both and get the same results, in fact when this first cropped up I tried copying to another directory to see if the file copy operation did anything, but to no avail. Initially I was a bit tricked by the fact that some would copy to Adaptec CD and other would not until I stumbled on the fact that those that had been through the zip - unzip process were OK but those that had been modified in VFP were somehow different in file behaviour. I read the stuff on MSDN about W2K File stuff and some of it went sailing right over my head, but I came away thinking that W2K sure gets tricky in saving time in reopening files by not being as straight forward as one had accepted in the past. Initially I opened an incident with Adaptec thinking it was their problem, but they were less than helpful. Not being able to copy these files directly to CD was of course only the tip of the iceberg, the "File Corruption" lurking in the background of improperly closed files is the killer. But thankfully Winzip for now, and a ?future Service Pack will probably solve it. Again, let me thank you for your fantastic support.
regards.
