I wrote up a few of the merchant providers I've dealt with over last year and a half or so at
http://www.west-wind.com/webconnection/MerchantProviders.asp. This is by no means complete or even covering many of the common providers, but it gives you an idea of what you have to deal with.
I currently use AccessPoint and other than occasional server overloading on their end the service has been extremely easy to deal with and reliable...
As somebody else pointed out it costs some money but considering that you will be selling stuff it's hardly a lot to spend a couple of hundred of dollars for a certificate a year and a relatively low monthly fee to to accept CC cards (if you do more than a little bit of volume that's all CC percentages anyway).
I do know all of the companies I've dealt have treid to screw me one way or the other. It helps to know how they operate so you can bite back at them <s>...
