If you need a good reference book, I recommend Javascript : The Definitive Guide published by O'Reilly. It has decent (but not comprehensive) examples and it shows the browser support for each item. It was written in 1998 so the support is a little out-dated but it gives you an idea.
I can't recommend any "HowTo" books. Most of the stuff I do (in any environment) is so basic it's been done to death or its so beyond the normal realm, no one thought to put it in a book.
