The O'Reilly book that Larry mentioned is a good reference. There is another O'Reilly title, JavaScript Cookbook or something like that, that's also good if you're looking for specific applications of JavaScript. I found The Complete Idiot's Guide to JavaScript useful when I first got into it, and I still use it as a reference sometimes. Also JavaScript Goodies by Joe Burns is a good one (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0789720248/qid=976138381/sr=1-26/002-7710290-1104057).
